Media & images
Images are managed right where they're used: a product's images live on the product's page (Catalog → Items, below its variants), and a collection's images live on the collection's page. There's no separate media library to keep in sync.
Upload images
Use the uploader on the product or collection page. You can select several files at once; JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF are supported. Each file shows its progress and lands in the gallery when done.
Write alt text
Every image carries alt text — the description screen readers announce and search engines read. New uploads start with a placeholder derived from the filename; edit it inline next to each image (it can't be saved empty). A real description ("Trail Pack 38L in granite, three-quarter view") is always better than the placeholder for accessibility and SEO.
Ordering & the primary image
The up/down arrows set the gallery order customers see. The primary image — the one product cards and listings lead with — is separate: use the image's Set primary action, and it's marked with a badge. Moving an image to the top of the gallery doesn't make it primary.
Featured images for variants
A variant can have its own featured image, so selecting "Granite" shows the granite photo. Pick it in the variant's editor from the product's uploaded images. Variants without one fall back to the product's primary image — and if you later remove an image a variant was using, the variant safely falls back rather than breaking.
Remove an image
Remove takes an image off the product (or collection) immediately — it stops appearing anywhere on your storefront. There's no undo in the admin; re-upload the file if you need it back.
Who can do this
Owners and Admins can upload and manage images. Staff can be granted the same through the Catalog permission group (it covers product and collection media) — once granted, the screens unlock for them. See Team & permissions.
